Dubai, United Arab Emirates– 17 February 2026: With nominations now open for the fifth edition of the World Police Summit Awards, the organising committee is inviting People of Determination (people with disabilities) from police and law enforcement agencies around the world to apply for the Excellence for People of Determination Award.

The category recognises officers who have demonstrated exceptional professional achievement while overcoming personal and operational challenges, celebrating their resilience, commitment, and meaningful contributions to the security sector.

The award stands among the summit’s most prominent categories, highlighting inspiring journeys that reflect courage, perseverance, and a true dedication to duty.

    Inspiring Journeys

During the fourth edition, Officer Adele Gesso, Deputy Head of Operations at the Italian Traffic Police, received the 2025 Excellence for People of Determination Award. After sustaining paraplegia in a road accident while on duty, she returned to service and dedicated her efforts to road safety awareness campaigns and educational lectures across schools and universities in Italy. She also contributed to police training initiatives, notably the Icaro road safety project, becoming a powerful symbol of determination

The third edition honoured Mr Muhammad Hasnain from Punjab Police in Pakistan for his extraordinary resolve. After losing his leg and left arm in an electrical accident, he continued his education, qualified as a certified software engineer and professional trainer, and delivered motivational lectures at police training institutes. He received the Distinguished Performance Award from the Inspector General of Punjab Police and was later honoured by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. He also authored a book titled I Am Without Limits.

In the second edition, Sergeant Nadia Othman from Sharjah Police in the United Arab Emirates secured first place in the 2023 category. She played a leading role in promoting sign language within her organisation and the wider community. At a time when even simple phrases in sign language were unfamiliar in the workplace, she launched workshops and training programmes that later expanded to schools and community centres, supporting inclusion and empowering members of the deaf community.
