Egyptian climatetech NoorNation secures $1.05 million seed funding

    Press release:

Egypt-based climatetech startup NoorNation has closed a $1.05 million seed funding round, with agricultural group Linah Farms joining its shareholder base after deploying the startup's renewable energy solutions across several of its operations. The round saw participation from climate tech investor Catalyst Fund and Saudi firm KBW Ventures.

The investment marks a shift in the relationship between the two companies, with Linah Farms moving from a commercial customer to an investor following projects involving solar-powered agricultural irrigation, an agricultural school and a hotel in Sharm El Sheikh.

Founded in 2021 by Ragy Ramadan and Mohamed Khaled, NoorNation develops decentralised clean energy and water infrastructure for agricultural businesses, rural communities and other off-grid users in Egypt and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Its flagship product, LifeBox, is a self-contained, solar-powered system designed to provide electricity and water for irrigation, desalination and other applications in areas with limited access to conventional infrastructure.

The company has previously attracted investment from KBW Ventures, the investment firm founded by Saudi Prince Khaled bin Alwaleed, which backed NoorNation in 2024 for an undisclosed amount.

    From customer to investor

NoorNation and Linah Farms have worked together on several renewable energy projects, including solar irrigation systems at agricultural operations in Egypt's Bahariya Oasis, a solar-and-battery installation at Linah's agricultural school and a solar power system at Sultan Gardens Resort in Sharm El Sheikh.

According to NoorNation founder Ragy Ramadan, the solar-powered irrigation system at Linah Farms' Bahariya Oasis operations has generated more than EGP 3 million in diesel savings, while the installation at Sultan Gardens Resort has reduced electricity costs by more than EGP 2.2 million.

The companies have also announced an agreement covering five additional solar installations with a combined capacity of approximately 1.13 MWp across the Bahariya Oasis and West Minya. The projects include solar irrigation systems and a hybrid power station.

The agreement brings the combined capacity of projects delivered and under implementation for Linah Group to approximately 1.71 MWp, according to NoorNation.

    Expanding solar-powered irrigation

The funding comes as NoorNation develops a pay-per-use solar irrigation model aimed at farmers who continue to rely on diesel-powered water pumps.

Linah Farms is also expected to support financing for this model, extending the partnership beyond its existing energy installations.

The approach seeks to make solar-powered irrigation more accessible to agricultural businesses while reducing their exposure to fuel costs.

NoorNation's latest investment adds to growing interest in decentralised clean energy solutions for Egypt's agricultural sector, where access to affordable power and water remains a challenge for farms operating outside established infrastructure networks.
