Tunisian aerospace pioneer Avionav has officially expanded its manufacturing capabilities into the rotary-wing sector, successfully assembling the first helicopter ever produced on Tunisian soil. This achievement marks a significant diversification for the firm, which has built a global reputation for the design and production of light aircraft. The newly completed helicopter has already been earmarked for an international client, signaling the company’s readiness to compete in the global rotorcraft market.

    Advancing Tunisian Aerospace Engineering

The successful billion-for-2025/”>assembly of this helicopter represents a major technological leap for the North African aviation industry. Founded by a group of ambitious entrepreneurs, Avionav began its journey by manufacturing light aircraft (LSA) and ultralight models (ULM) from its base in Sousse. Despite facing initial challenges related to specialized infrastructure and local technical precedents, the company has managed to internalize complex manufacturing processes, including high-performance composite molding, precision machining, and advanced industrial painting.

    Global Footprint and Safety Standards

Avionav is not a newcomer to the international stage; its fixed-wing aircraft are currently operational in over 20 countries. This global presence is supported by rigorous adherence to international safety certifications, which have allowed the Tunisian manufacturer to export high-tech machinery to diverse markets across Europe, the Middle East, and beyond. The introduction of helicopter assembly is expected to further strengthen Tunisia’s position as an emerging hub for aerospace component manufacturing and assembly within the MENA region.

    Strategic Shift to Specialized Aviation

The move into helicopter production aligns with Avionav’s broader strategy of utilizing carbon fiber and Kevlar technologies to create lightweight, durable, and corrosion-resistant aerial vehicles. By applying the same principles used in their successful Rally and Storm aircraft series—which emphasize fuel efficiency and reduced maintenance costs—the company aims to provide cost-effective solutions for international buyers looking for specialized rotary-wing aircraft for utility, transport, or leisure.

    About Avionav

Based in Sousse, Tunisia, Avionav is an aerospace manufacturer specializing in the construction of light aircraft, drones, and naval components. Founded in 2007, the company provides end-to-end solutions ranging from engineering and composite manufacturing to final assembly and flight testing. Known for its “Rally” and “Storm” aircraft series, Avionav has evolved from a local startup into a key player in the global light sport aircraft (SLSA) market, maintaining a strong focus on high-performance materials and precision engineering.
