Projects tackling clinical records, care coordination, referrals, and patient follow-up also recognized
Abu Dhabi, 11 September 2026: An AI platform designed to help patients understand how urgent their symptoms are and where they should seek care has taken the Gold Prize at the AI Builders Summit 2026 in Abu Dhabi.
Developed by Hamdan Basheer of 42 Abu Dhabi, PRISM uses conversational AI to assess patient symptoms, determine urgency levels, and guide patients toward the appropriate level of care. The platform also provides clinicians with decision-support insights to enable faster, more informed care.
PRISM led a group of winning solutions addressing practical gaps across the healthcare journey, from fragmented patient records and care coordination to specialist referrals, follow-up management, and patient understanding.
The Summit, hosted by AiMed Solutions, the AI and technology arm of Burjeel Holdings, in partnership with Burjeel Training Academy, attracted more than 100 registrations from universities and institutions across the UAE. Nineteen finalists advanced to the Live Demo Day, where their projects were evaluated for clinical relevance, impact, scalability and real-world potential.
The winners were announced at 42 Abu Dhabi in the presence of Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, Chairman and CEO of Burjeel Holdings; Eng. Abdullah Al Faqeeh, Section Head of IT Operations, Department of Health – Abu Dhabi; and Dr. Hazim Jarrah, Chief of Partnership, Entrepreneurship, and Communications, 42 Abu Dhabi, along with other dignitaries.
AI Solutions Built Around Healthcare Gaps
For a patient, PRISM is designed to provide support from the first moment they are unsure about a symptom. Through a conversational interface, patients can describe what they are experiencing and receive an assessment of how urgent the situation may be and what level of care they should consider. The system is designed to help distinguish between cases that may require immediate attention and those that can be directed to an appropriate care setting or provider.
On the clinical side, PRISM combines patient-reported symptoms with available vital signs and clinical information to highlight possible conditions, red flags, and relevant insights. The aim is not to replace clinical judgment, but to give healthcare professionals structured information that can support faster decision-making.
“PRISM started from a simple question: how can we help patients understand how urgent their symptoms are and reach the right level of care sooner? This recognition gives us confidence to take the idea further and continue developing it for real healthcare environments,” said Hamdan.
Bilal Feroz Khan of Al Ain University received the Silver Prize for CaseReady AI, a tool that organizes patient records, identifies missing information and streamlines case preparation for healthcare professionals.
Khadeja Al Khazraji of Abu Dhabi University received the Bronze Prize for Sanadi AI, a caregiver support platform that connects patients, doctors and caregivers in a shared system to improve care coordination and communication.
Seven additional category awards highlighted the range of solutions developed during the Summit. Mahadi Hassan of Al Ain University received Best AI Builder for CarePath E-Ink, a hospital journey assistant providing directions, queue updates and multilingual notifications.
Carolina Sancho Casanova of NYU Abu Dhabi received Best AI for Community Health for CareShield, while Mohammed Sadiq Hussain Shik of Al Ain University was named Rising Star for FAHM, which simplifies complex medical reports for patients. Mohammed F. M. Shaheen of 42 Abu Dhabi received Best Healthcare Innovation for THREAD, which turns radiology follow-up recommendations into tracked actions. Salman Waleed Alshehhi of UAE University received the Most Scalable Concept for CareRoute AI, an AI referral assistant that helps direct patients to the appropriate specialist and tracks referrals through completion.
Raphael Creer of 42 Abu Dhabi received Best AI Product Thinker for CASCADE, while Milki Teshome Feyera of HCT Dubai received Best UI/UX for Mel’key.
Taking the Ideas Further
During the ceremony, Burjeel Holdings announced plans to launch AI Builders Collective, a platform that will bring together the winners and finalists to stay connected, exchange ideas, and explore emerging developments and opportunities in healthcare AI.
